Second. Despite our best efforts...

Look, we're underdogs, absolutely, but we're not even talking cup shock levels of upset here. We are close to the same level of the other teams involved in the playoffs as things stand. Now, that could change. Jai could leave, we could hit rough form, they could sign new players and improve. I'm taking nothing for granted. But as of right now not a single team in and around the playoff spots will look at the table and think "oh, Morton, hope we get them, that's a guaranteed win."

Buhleev, gentlemen.

Now before Gavin goes, I'd like to ask him one more question.

I would not disagree with this, however, the playoff format makes it exceedingly difficult for the 3rd/4th placed team regardless of how good they are. More games = more tired players.

We'd have 4 players in the running for Championship team of the year - O'Ware, Lindsay, Forbes and Oliver (5 if Gunning had stayed). And I'm predicting that Nesbitt is going to have a sensational 2nd half of the season.

I also hope that Russell can rediscover his early season form. It's difficult when players shift position though.

Yeah, I was have so many solid performers just under that level - Gaston, Doyle, Murdoch and Jai (if he stays).

We have a chance. Would 3rd mean the second game at home?

As others have said, earlier on in the thread, the beauty of St Murns demise is their "we,re better than you attitude" and its not just in football, I've been involved in basketball for over 40 years and there was always that same sneering down the nose from them.

Even in work I encountered that same attitude from most folk from Paisley.

There was only a handful that I came across that didn't have it.

So to be honest our promotion over ther relegation would be my priority, both would be fantastic, but for now I'm happy to point and laugh as they have done to us for years.

In fairness, they get that treatment from Glaswegians like myself. Come to think of it, so does the rest of Scotland. Edinburgh tries to look down its snooty nose in itsfaux Morningside accent, but thanks to an AIDS epidemic, Malcolm Rifkind, Irvine Welsh and two crap football teams we can safely point and laugh at them as a town full of Whores, Poofs and Junkies. They are from the East Coast too, which also makes them inferior. By default.

I forgot about them. In fact, no I didn't. They are so insignificant that I refuse to acknowledge that they exist. Unless we draw them in the cup, then I demand and expect them to be fodder.

Obviously Morton's success is far, far more important to us all than St. Mirren's failure, but promotion for us is still a long way away with a battle to secure a top four spot over the next few months, followed by having to get through the playoffs. I don't see a lack of excitement or enthusiasm from the support about that, I just see people not wanting to get carried away when there's still such a long way to go. It's cautious optimism rather than pessimism or apathy.

On the other hand, St. Mirren are now at the point of requiring a miracle turnaround, their relegation is highly likely and schadenfreude is hilarious, particularly pronounced this weekend after they've taken a 3-0 pumping at home to a team who were 13 games without a win. Laughing at them as much as we are is entirely reasonable.

I'm obviously in the minority, but i still think they have a chance, albeit  a small one, of catching Ayr and finishing 9th.

7 points behind but still need to play them twice and Ayr haven't won in 10 and don't look like improving.

Long shot i know, but i wouldn't say its finished just yet.

Probability of The Famous winning promotion; about 10% (nearly doubling if we're still in the play-offs at the end of the season).

Probability of The Spoon-burners being relegated to the seaside leagues: >80%.

It's the difference between having two teams up on a seven-team accumulator that stands to win you two grand, or just waiting on Real Madrid cantering home to win £500 on another line.

The site is supposed to be a place for the extended 'family' of Morton supporters - having an affinity with people that you don't know, because you share a love of your local football club. It's not supposed to be about point scoring and showing how 'clever' or 'funny' you are, or just being downright rude and offensive to people you don't know, because you can get away with it. Unfortunately, it seems the classic case of people who have little standing/presence in real life, use this forum as a way of making themselves feel as if they are something. It's sad, and I've said that before..

So, having been on Morton forums for about 15 years I guess, I've had enough... well done t*ssers, another Morton supporter driven away. You can all feel happy at how 'clever' you are
